SEAN RITCHWOOD TAKES ART TO THE STREETS

Take a stroll in New York’s SoHo area in the summer or Lincoln Rd. in South Beach during the winter and among the trendy shops and galleries, you might be lucky to find Sean Ritchwood and a small collection of his outdoor artwork.

The 26 year-old New Jersey native has been using the street as a gallery for his art for over five years. The first three years, Ritchwood limited his time to weekends while holding down another job. Soon, the gifted artist decided to rely solely on his artwork to support him. Amazingly, he has sold over 400 paintings in that span. He has also been able to sell work through his website.

“I enjoy the being outdoors,” says Ritchwood. “Meeting all the people, getting feedback on my work firsthand, and networking.”

But don’t confuse Ritchwood for an anarchist who is antiestablishment. He would love to have his work in a gallery, and await the right opportunity. For now, he is finding resounding success on the streets, so he can afford to be choosy.

If you are not fortunate to be in Miami at the moment, many pieces that Ritchwood sells on the streets can be found on his website at SeanRitchwood.com.
